Silkscreen set

Filed under: Silk Screening — Admin @ 6:40 pm

Silkscreen set
In silkscreen printing, a negative of the image to be printed is blocked off on a screen of porous material using a non porous material. Then silkscreen paint or ink is squeegeed over the screen onto a substrate, which is often fabric or some kind of paper. This effectively prints the reverse of the blocked off image onto the substrate in the paint or ink. This printing technique was first used in the early 1900s and has since been modified to be able to print images onto numerous types of substrates, including paper, fabric, ceramics, tile, and even wood. Silkscreen printing, which can be done by hand the old fashioned way or by computerized machines, is also known as serigraphy or silk screening. If silkscreen printing sounds like a fairly simple process to you, you are right. In fact, silkscreen printing is often a technique that many home hobbyists and craft doers take on with much success. Many online craft Web sites and local craft stores now carry all of the necessary material for silkscreen printing. If this is your first attempt at silkscreen printing, then you should invest in a silkscreen set. Such a silkscreen set will usually contain a few already made screens, a squeegee, non porous material that you can cut to any shape you want to create your design on your screen, a tool to cut the material, and even a few different colors of silkscreen paint or ink. The more expensive the silkscreen set, the more items you will get. Some of the silkscreen set contain a few samples of various substrates, like nice sheets of paper and fabric. The most expensive silkscreen set will even carry computer software that will help you to create a negative of your image and print it on the non porous material that you can then cut out. Many experienced silkscreen printers will recommend that you purchase one of these silkscreen set with this kind of software in it when you are first starting out. Though you may be able to find a silkscreen set online at a cheaper price than your local craft store, remember that you can not verify the contents of the silkscreen set your purchased online like you can for one that you bought in a store. For this reason, make sure that the site you are buying your silkscreen set from has a good return policy that will allow you to return your item, no questions asked, up to thirty days after purchase for a full refund. If the site you are on does not have such a return policy, choose a different site to do your shopping from.
