How to make a silkscreen

Filed under: Silk Screening — Admin @ 10:50 pm

How to make a silkscreen
Making a silkscreen is a simple process. A silk screen is made using fine mesh. It is stretched tightly over a rigid frame. The non-printing areas are kept masked out of the screen. The framed screen is located above the article that has to be printed with a blob of thick ink. To press the ink to appear through the screen a squeegee is used. The areas that are kept masked prevent the ink from passing and the unmasked areas facilitate the ink to have its imprint on the material. The process is replicated if the final design requires more colors on different screens. This meant any design requiring six different colors will require six screens. Masking the screen can be done in various ways. The straight way of masking is by applying the fluid on the screen directly. This technique is applicable if simple prints with one or two colors, but is of no use for complex prints. Screen printers employ photosensitive emulsions for multicolor jobs to create any masked area. The design is created on a plastic film and a coating of photosensitive is applied to the complete screen surface and dried. This film is then placed on the screen and is kept open to bright light. After particular time, the areas that are exposed are washed from the screen using water and this makes the screen suitably ready to print. Silkscreen printing is suitable for t-shirts, mouse pads, binders, sweatshirts, stickers and more. People who desire for additional income can make use of this opportunity and prepare a silk screen and start doing silk screen printing. Silkscreen printing is a technique suitable for flat surfaces. The area to be printed can be made of nylon, silk or stainless steel as ink passes through this area comfortably, but does not go through the stencil inside the frame. The screen printing process initiates when the operator brings the screen on the object to be printed and ensures that the ink penetrates in the required areas. A silkscreen can be purchased or else making also does not consume much time. A single silkscreen can be made to use more than thousand times based on the way you handle them with care. A plastic tape is required, Ink, emulsion to keep the image in silkscreen. The silkscreen printing is suitable for sweatshirts, tote bags, aprons, muscle shirts, lunch bags, mouse pads, vinyl binders, jackets, flags, signs and tiles. The silkscreen printing appears very bright and is definitely unique and you can always have the pride of handwork.
